1. Tending Urban ForestsMending our Relationships with the Land.
Saturday, October 7th
11:00 am – 12:30 pm *Optional volunteer time: 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm Our urban forests provide a diverse array of incredibly valuable benefits for the environment, local wildlife, and all the people who live in and visit our city. We will walk in the orchard and explore the native plants of the Forest Garden to get a glimpse into the past, present, and future of food grown in the Queensborough area. As we connect with the array of fruit and nut trees and native plant food and medicines, we will discover how we might begin to repair, restore, and reconcile with the land we are on. 2. Mindful Compost MethodsFor anyone who wants compost to be simple without a stinky mess!
Saturday, October 28th
11:00 am – 12:30 pm *Optional volunteer time: 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm Autumn is the absolute BEST time for starting compost right! Learn the basics about caring for compost – and what you can discover about yourself and human health from the process. We will discuss the best options for home projects, and pro tips for composting from a small indoor worm bin to a larger outdoor 3-bin system. 3. Eco-anxiety & Winter GardeningCome to learn together and share in the garden’s abundance.

We will discuss these terms and practice simple horticultural therapy techniques to become more resilient in times of challenge and change. Come together to learn about preparing gardens (and ourselves) for winter and how connecting with the season can enhance human health and well-being. Registration: |
